Technology |
Technology in education is a topic that interests me and has become one of my passions as an educator. I have been a technology lead at my school for the past two years. All throughout my portfolio I have permeated technology to demonstrate my knowledge as well as different projects that my students have created in class.

I was lucky enough to engage with technology early in my teaching career. The January of my first year of teaching, I was blessed with a cart of iPads for my grade 7 students for a 1:1 project. The grade 8s at the school also had 1:1 iPads. The learning curve was...well...straight up. I learned so much in the first two weeks we had the iPads and I soon realized that it was more than I ever thought it could be. I started to develop a 'philosophy' or sorts in regards to technology in education as a way to help guide this project. I feel that students need to use technology to learn THROUGH not technology to learn ON. Behind technology in a classroom should be GREAT teaching/educating. It is not a substitute for great teaching. It should be helping your students engage with their world, their curriculum and new problems in innovative and creative ways. I love adding in technology in my classroom and it really has become more natural as I've continued teaching. The more we use technology, the more comfortable we become with it. I now have 20 general use iPads for many:1, iMacs, AppleTV in my classroom. I encourage students to bring in their own devices. I permeate my teaching with digital citizenship examples and ideals. I am also the technology lead at my school, which I love. I maintain the 1:1 highschool iPad project, help with tech. stuff and try to fix smartboards!
