In this summative assessment, after covering the information about the Metis people in Canada, students watched the recreated trial of Louis Riel called "History on Trial". They recorded points FOR and AGAINST Louis Riel during the trial in a graphic organizer. They then, using their knowledge of the Metis as we learned in class and from the trial, write a persuasive essay on the topic of "Was Louis Riel Guilty of High Treason or Innocent?".

This summative assessment uses a pre-assessment to establish the level of assignment student will work on as well it takes into account their major learning style into their project choice. This summative assessment is used at the end of our Renaissance unit for students to demonstrate what they have learned in creative and innovative ways.

In this summative assessment, student created a board game based around the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They had to have knowledge of the YCJA as well as consequences, opportunities and challenges that this act creates in our society for all citizens. Some created board games and another group greater a large monopoly game where students were the players on the board in the gymnasium. This was a Performance Assessment for the end of their Judicial System unit on the YCJA.

Critical Challenges -
In this assessment, student look at primary and secondary source documents to determine the answer to a critical challenge question "What were the most important factors that encouraged Ukrainian immigration to Canada prior to 1914 from most important to least important?". This was a performance assessment done during our Immigration unit to look at historical impacts of immigration on Canadian quality of life, citizenship and identity. |
